What´s In a Name....
Penny Lane Social came about from an amalgamation of two important events.
1. After 4 years of living the Scandinavian lifestyle in Norway, Helen and her husband moved back to India. Starting a new life back home, the couple added some one very important to their family. A bubbly, incredibly jumpy, tail wagging, golden haired, lovable labrador - who was affectionately named Ms. Penny Lane Muffin (yes, after their love for all things Beatles). Penny Lane also signified a brand new start for Helen, and it felt apt to name the business after the new family member.
2. One story goes - “while the song is called "Penny Lane" and is a road in Liverpool, the song is really a reference to the Penny Lane Bus Station (now gone) next to "The shelter in the middle of the roundabout" (now the Sgt. Peppers bistro). When the boys (Lennon & McCartney) were young they used to meet at this bus station as it was a hub to get them anywhere else they wanted to go and was centrally located to all of them.”
Social Media is today´s ´Penny Lane Bus Station´ & that ´hub´ that is the central meeting point for Brands, Business & Consumers. The analogy also holds good when you think of the customer & the business. They come together on social media, to navigate through the noise and discover a mutually beneficial & meaningful relationship.
Who´s Behind Penny Lane Social
Helen Issar comes with over 10 years of experience in the Communications & Internet business. She started in advertising with JWT (J Walter Thomson) in Bangalore & was responsible for managing brands like Levis & Kirtilals.
She then moved into the Internet space, just as Orkut was gaining traction and becoming the predominant social network in India. At the same time, Facebook was emerging the world over and challenging the likes of MySpace and Orkut globally. Helen’s move saw her start work with a Bangalore based internet education startup -Minglebox.com. The company’s mission was to create an education networking space similar to these emerging social networks. A part of the early team at Minglebox, Helen’s work spanned across activation, marketing, PR, App development, SEO & SEM. It was here that Helen got her first taste of the web in its new Avatar - ´Social Networking´
After a few years at Minglebox, Helen moved to Copenhagen, Denmark. She loved the startup culture and started work with another startup - Komfo. Specializing in the Facebook platform, was key to her experience here after which she moved to work with Fanbooster in Norway, a revolutionary startup in the Facebook CMS tools space. As project manager Helen worked closely with the Facebook platform to work towards building a platform solution for Brands to easily create customized content via facebook applications.
Helen is also a mother of a 4 month old, and currently the Penny Lane Team is an all women's team.
