Indian Impact Investor Council (IIC) is the industry body (Section 8 company) for impact investing The agenda for IIC is to focus on advocacy, research, impact measurement and evangelising the concept of Indian impact investing with investors both in India and abroad. The IIC is supported by most leading impact funds/foundations in the country including Omidyar, Aavishkar, Caspian, Elevar equity, Ford Foundation, DFID, Tata Capital, KKR, Northern Arc, Lemelson Foundation and others. We have close to 50 members today, all directly or indirectly with an interest in the impact space.
Impact investing is a well established form of investing internationally and in India : essentially impact investors invest in for profit social enterprises with a focus on financial returns as well as measurable social impact. Fab India for e.g is an excellent example of a high impact social enterprise. The Indian impact investing (II) industry has been growing at a fast clip over the past several years with annual investments in the sector tripling from about 0.4 Bln USD to about 1 Bln USD and expected to grow to about 5 Billion USD by 2025.
